The end will not come in the foreseeable future, but cracks in the social structure are beginning to appear. Some of the fringe worlds have all but seceded from the union. The boldest of these planets openly violate the laws laid down by the Tripartite Congress and its principal executive, the Central Controller. The star fleets of the Galactic Navy, and the elite soldiers of Star Guard are sometimes called in to quell these uprisings, but all too often they must turn their attention to the pirate fleets that appear in increasing numbers. As a result, the Central Controller has approved the drafting of Letters of Marque, granting certain well-armed starships the title of Privateer. Jeff Edwards is a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer and an Anti-Submarine Warfare Specialist. Trained extensively in mainframe computers, weapons systems, and naval combat tactics, he brings an experience-based edge of authenticity to his writing. Collectively, his novels have won the Admiral Nimitz Award for Outstanding Naval Fiction, the Reader's Choice Award, the Clive Cussler Grandmaster Award for Adventure Writing, the Military Writer's Society of America Gold Medal for Navy Fiction, and the American Author Medal. His novel, The Seventh Angel, was selected for the 2012 Chief of Naval Operations Professional Reading Program. He lives in San Diego, where he consults for the Department of Defense.
