This dissertation offers an exploratory analysis of selected American and Egyptian stand-up comedy performances. Analysis is twofold where one dimension is based on doing a move analysis applying Swales and Bhatia's steps of genre analysis. The second dimension of analysis focuses on exploring how comedians from both countries formulate their jokes through analyzing the different features of humor employed by the comedians in their shows.
