The study examines the effects of work stress on employees' performance in Nigerian banking industry. Five selected deposit money banks in Abuja were used as a case study. This research was built on inverted U-shape theory and a proportional random sampling technique was adopted. Validity and reliability test of the survey instruments were conducted using estimation of Cronbach's Alpha. Findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between the causes and effects of stress in the Nigerian banking industry and; a significant relationship between the causes of stress on managers and non-managers. The study concluded that, management of organizations should make conscientious efforts to identify optimal points at which directional stress could amount to performance and at what level in combination with other factors could trigger negative performance. The study recommended that stress management should be enhanced in terms of regular training, openness and understanding among the employees.
