Expansive soils are highly problematic by virtue of their innate capacity to undergo volume changes such as swelling and shrinkage respectively corresponding to water absorption and water evaporation. This alternate swelling and shrinkage causes distress in the structural members of lightly loaded civil engineering infrastructure such as buildings, pavements and canal linings. Chemical stabilisation is one of the viable techniques to control these volume changes of expansive soils. This book deals with lime stabilisation and pond ash stabilisation of a remoulded expansive clay. Laboratory tests were performed on the clay blended with varied amounts of lime and pond ash in different series of tests. Swelling and compressibility characteristics were evaluated.
