Nacido el 25 de abril de 1973 en Dabou (Costa de Marfil), Botiagne Marc Essis es doctor en Ciencias Políticas (magna cum laude) por la Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität de Munich (Alemania). Es profesor en la Universidad Félix Houphouet-Boigny de Cocody (Abiyán) y en el Instituto Universitario de Abiyán (IUA).
