Vegetable breeders always face the challenging task of germplasm conservation, evaluation and determination of the inheritance pattern of tomato genotypes. Based on preliminary study of germplasm characterization, the genotypes with desired attributes were crossed in different combinations for exploitation of their inherent potential in segregating generations following hybridization. Estimates of heterosis, combining ability (both general and specific), and type of gene action of the parents are the basic themes to achieve this objective. In the present study eight genotypes were selected and crossed in half diallel fashion. The 28 cross combination including their parents were evaluated, and statistically analyzed for magnitude of heterosis, diallel analysis (both Griffing and Hayman approach) and type of gene actions involved for the genetic manifestation of the traits.
