In order to meet the increasing demand for the food supply, the intensive expansion of the agriculture with monocultures and with the extensive usage of chemical fertilizers has become a serious threat to the ecosystem. In contrast, biofertilizers are useful supplement to chemical fertilizers. It's used in organic farming, sustainable agriculture, green farming and non-pollution farming. Various mechanisms are used by microbial strains in order to enhance nutrient uptake, improve soil fertility and increase crop yields such as nitrogen fixation, potassium and phosphorus solubilization, production of substances suppressing phytopathogens, guarding plants from abiotic and biotic stresses and detoxification of belowground pollutants. The aim of biofertilizers is to complement and, replace conventional chemical fertilizers wherever needed, so that their use can be reduced with the resulting economic and environmental benefits.
