Tobacco problem is a major concern of humanity that has unfortunately not been fully recognized till date. Anxiety can be a symptom of mental illness characterized by feelings of nervousness or distress without a noticeable cause. On the other hand, Depression is a common mental disorder characterized by sadness, loss of interest in activities and by decreased energy. Mental health disorders have been strongly associated with Tobacco users, especially among adolescents and young adults. Adults Tobacco users are two times more likely to develop a major depressive disorder than adult non-Tobacco user. Data from multiple studies suggest that anxiety disorders and Depression play a role in cigarette smoking. Depression is found to be one of the major causes of initiation of Tobacco smoking. Tobacco use increases risk for the later development of certain anxiety disorders, and smokers with anxiety disorders have more severe withdrawal symptoms during smoking cessation than smokers without anxiety disorders. The conceptual framework of the study is based on the Neuman System Model. This model is based on stress and the reactions/potential reactions to stress with the philosophical basis in wholeness, wellness, client perception, motivational energy and environmental interaction. The study intends to assess the degree of Depression and anxiety among Tobacco users and non users of age.
