He was famously imprisoned for homosexual acts from 1895 to 1897 and died at the age of 46, just three years after his release. Oscar Wilde, renowned Irish poet, playwright, and novelist, was born in 1854 and had gained a wide following for his aesthetic style, knowledge, and humor by the 1890s. At the height of his career, his reputation was destroyed when he was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison for homosexual acts of "gross indecency." In addition to this novel, he is best known for his witty quips and his play, "The Importance of Being Earnest."
