In the present thesis, Lorne Reznowski argues that Wells lost hope in mankind's future. Wells, having no faith in any supernatural order, becomes a tragic figure, when the human institutions and ideals he advanced, must be reconciled with the tragic events of the first half of the 20th century and the threat of nuclear annihilation.
