Barbara Vine (alias Ruth Rendell), geboren 1930, lebt in London. Ihre Bücher erhielten zahlreiche literarische Auszeichnungen. Mit 'König Salomons Teppich' wurde zum vierten Mal - eine Rekordzahl - ein Werk von ihr mit dem Gold Dagger Award der Crime Writers' Association ausgezeichnet, 1996 erhielt sie von der Queen den Ehrentitel Commander of the British Empire und 1997 schließlich den Grand Master Award der Mystery Writers of America für das Gesamtwerk und wurde auf Vorschlag von Tony Blair geadelt und ins britische Oberhaus berufen.
Die britische Bestseller-Autorin starb 85-Jährig am 2. Mai 2015.
