Autorenporträt
Robert Billard, born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has lived in various places across Canada in an effort to understand both his personal and the national identity. He has been writing since grade school, winning the provincial library award for fiction short story at the age of 13. He wrote his first novel in 1991 just to prove his English Major Girlfriend wrong who said he "couldn't do it." He did and this book rests locked away on a shelf in his Vancouver home. Never to be read by any living soul. His second novel, finished in 1995, was deemed to be worthy however "not Canadian enough" by Canadian small presses. This pushed him over the edge, propelling him toward writing From Within, about an armed political uprising in the Canadian Arctic. He finished this in 2005 after living on Baffin Island near the Arctic Circle for six years working as an architect. While he eagerly awaits writing his fourth novel he bides his time with his wife and two sons, writing and publishing music (one of his songs, Terra Incognita, was recently voted one of the Top 100 Folk Songs in Canada), painting and working as an Architect in Vancouver, Canada.
