Autorenporträt
Amanda Minnie Douglas (July 14, 1831 - July 18, 1916) was a prolific American writer primarily of books for young adults. Born in New York City, Douglas showed an early interest in literature and began her writing career with verses written at the age of twelve. Douglas's venture into book publishing started with a collection of stories, "In Trust; or, Dr. Bertrand's Household," which was released in 1866. Her writing style often encapsulated a moral undertone, in keeping with the sentiment of her era, lifted by characters who exhibited strong virtues and personal growth over the course of the narrative. Among her well-received works is "Floyd Grandon's Honor," which explores themes of integrity, responsibility, and redemption. The book epitomizes Douglas's penchant for crafting narratives that not only engage young readers but also guide them towards ethical reflection. Throughout her career that spanned decades, Amanda M. Douglas authored over 40 books, many of which focused on the series format, such as the 'Little Girl' and 'Helen Grant' series, cementing her place as a significant contributor to young adult literature in the nineteenth century. Douglas's works remained popular into the early 20th century, influencing the genre of young adult fiction through her empathetic character development and robust storytelling.
