George in 3-D
GEORGE O'BRIANT is a convicted felon in long-term recovery from drug addiction who found redemption, spiritual rebirth, personal revival, and life through Jesus Christ. Since his release from prison, he has worked tirelessly as a certified addiction specialist who counsels formerly incarcerated persons remaining in the criminal justice system regarding probation, post-release, and recovery court. In 2018, George officially launched Prisoners of the Lord Ministries, a prison ministry focused on pointing those incarcerated to Jesus Christ and His gospel so they can live a new and spiritual life from the inside out. He and his team currently serve in four different prisons in central North Carolina. His passion to help those on a similar path to the one he once walked led Governor Pat McCrory to appoint him in 2017 to serve on the North Carolina Community Corrections Advisory Board. Since then, he has additionally served as an at-large member of various community non-profit boards focused on the holistic transition needs of formerly incarcerated persons such as housing and employment, as well as essential wraparound supportive services. While incarcerated, George connected his passion for working with youth and love of sports by coaching both inner-city little league baseball and youth basketball. Maintaining this connection, he has recently embarked on a secondary career as a state-certified high school basketball official. In addition, he engages with his community extensively by volunteering regularly alongside his church family at Triangle Church of Christ at Habitat for Humanity, homeless shelters, the Durham Rescue Mission, and other recovery-oriented community initiatives.George holds a CADC from the North Carolina Addiction Specialist Professional Practice Board. He is a trained and certified CBT facilitator with a concentration on cognitive behavioral intervention and WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) instruction. He holds a business administration certification from Roanoke-Chowan Community College, an associate's degree from Wake Tech Community College in human services substance abuse counseling, and an associate of applied science certification in mental health, also from Wake Tech.He and his wife, Wendy, live in the greater Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina. George in 3-D is his first book.
