My name is Cedric L. I was born in 1959 in Lufkin, Texas. My Mother, Grace Thomas worked as a domestic for years prior to relocating our family to San Francisco, California in the early 1970's. She and my father, Marvin Aldridge (deceased) was born in Lufkin, Texas. He worked as a mechanic.
It was difficult for me growing up and to make friends because my mother and father was always working. I primarily was raised by LeAnna LaRue (grandmother) and Grace Renfro (great grandmother) in a very strict and what some people would call an "abusive environment" under today's laws.
Later in life I discovered I have a talent for learning art using oil on canvas and practicing meditation. Due to my disabilities form Military Service, I spent much time following doctor's orders, writing, painting and meditating. As a child around the age of 6 years old, I dreamed of becoming an artist. However, it didn't quite workout that way until late in life. At age 50 I took my first formal art therapy class through the Veterans Administration. Later, I discovered within myself that art had a very calming and meditative effect on me. As I moved throughout different places, I was inspired to improve on my passion for art through various classes. In addition to art I continue practicing meditation based on the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction program (MBSR). I use my daily meditation as a tool for managing other areas in my life.
At this point in my life, I believe everyone should learn and practice being in harmony to the best of their abilities, to achieve this harmony, I believe people should understand who they are and continuously look for positive strategies that work in their personal lives. Mind body, spirit balance alinement could be a reflection of themselves in family, friends, society, community and the workplace.
I feel motivated to share my life experiences, with all who read the words on these pages about journeys and places traveled because we can learn so much from each other. Also, we must all learn to look within, not outside ourselves for answers. "Standing in the Shadows of War" not only cover some of my Gulf War experiences, it also gives you a glimpse of another "War" I have experience throughout my life.
My goal is share with you how I understand and found methods of healing, self-discovery and managing my health while improving and understand other people from where we are in the present moment.
