Noble female office-holders at the court of Louis XIV are to a large extent still uncharted territory. Therefore, the research of Regina Schleuning is directed at integrating them into the courtly setting by, on the one hand, providing basic data about the households of the female members of the famille royale and the female charges, and, on the other hand, analysing their roles, options of action and meaning in interpersonal relationships. This approach contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the early modern court and nobility as well as the meaning of gender in both of them.
