Ultimately the fitness of the stream water may be lost for the aquatic organisms to live in. In some studies a macrophyte based ecosystem to a phytoplankton- or algal-based ecosystem was found to decline in the River due to the changes of nutrient cycling to stream water. To manage the situation it may be recommended to have dense vegetation cover particularly in the bank of the water bodies.
