This dissertation discusses the Syntax and Semantics of Possessive Structures in Nzema. It covers the general background, statement of the problem of the subject matter as well as the objective and significance of the study. The sources of data, methodology, theoretical framework and related literature are also discussed. This thesis gives the description of the structure of the Nzema Noun Phrase of the endocentric type since possessive construction forms part of the larger Noun Phrase. The description of the constituents of the Nzema Noun Phrase is examined in the context of phrase-structure analysis from the point of view of the X- bar theory.Issues on possessive constructions in which the two nouns forming the NP which are related either by overt or covert possessive markers in surface Syntactic forms are discussed. This work has also given attention to Semantics relations that exist between the nouns forming the possessive constructions.
