This section includes information on the structure and function of red blood cells and haemoglobin, epidemiology and aetiology of anaemia and clinical and laboratory evaluation of childhood anaemia. The next three sections will provide information on paediatric conditions that result in microcytic, normocytic and macrocytic anaemia, respectively. The final section will be on conditions leading to polycythaemia in neonates and children.
