Date palm belonging to family Arecaceae, called Nakhla and the Tree of Life by the Arabs, is considered as one of the oldest cultivated fruit trees. It is believed to be indigenous to the countries around the Arabian Gulf. In Folkloric practice, date represents an essential meal in some Arab area. DPP has been used for thousands of years as a traditional Egyptian herbal medicine for improving male and female fertility. Phytochemical studies of DPP showed the presence of estrone, -amirin, triterpenoidal saponins, flavonoids and a crude gonadotrophic substance.
