Drawing from real-world experience, Dr. Joey Minear and Cristian Figueredo provide clear strategies for governing with purpose, revitalizing declining communities, building local economies, and inspiring civic engagement. From the shift of the campaign trail to council chambers, this handbook equips new leaders with the tools, mindset, and resilience needed to lead with impact, without waiting for outside help. Cristian Figueredo is a first-generation Colombian American and an experienced congressional staffer. Originally, Cristian hails from the vibrant city of Bogotá, Colombia, and later moved to the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated in 2018 from George Mason University with a Bachelor degree in Government and International Politics. Cristian began his Hill career as an intern on the House Judiciary Committee in the fall of 2017. He went on to serve in a congressional office in Southern California from January 2018 to January 2021, before joining a Eastern Oregon congressional office, where he now serves as Legislative Director. Over the years, he's had a front-row seat to more than a few historic events. He is experience coordinating between committees, leadership, personal offices, and administration while managing complex legislative priorities. Beyond Capitol Hill, Cristian have built strong working relationships with advocacy organizations, industry coalitions, and constituent groups throughout the Western region-relationships that have been instrumental in advancing comprehensive legislative priorities and ensuring effective stakeholder communication and support. Cristian lives in Fall Church, where he spends time hiking, photography, and-most importantly-catching up on sleep.
