This book teaches Swahili in its social and cultural context. It introduces the language in a natural manner, beginning with real-life situations in dialogue form, many of which also reveal African cultural attitudes and societal ideas to the reader. Grammar and vocabulary are introduced gradually, along with necessary pronunciation guides.

Autor

Joan Maw is presently Reader Emeritus, University of London. During her career she has taught in both this country and in Uganda at a variety of levels. She has been both a lecturer and a Research Fellow of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and headed the Department of Africa in SOAS from 1984 until 1988.
