In this book work is to carried out on mechanical design and analysis of the hub for a 1kW Small Wind Turbine System. The rotating blades extract the kinetic energy available in the free air stream, convert it into useful shaft power and transfer it to the generator. In the present Small Wind Turbine system, the blades are directly coupled to the generator casing. The hub acts as the interface between the rotor blades of a wind turbine system (WTS) and the rotating outer casing of the generator. It is therefore a very critical component of the WTS as it transfers the severe aerodynamic, gravitational and inertial loads acting on the rotor system. A detailed design of the hub has been carried out. The design loads have been quantified based on guidelines of IEC 61400-2. Conceptual design has been carried out and a casting model using AUTOCAD INVENTOR modelling software. Detailed designs for the respective hubs have been carried out. FEM analysis of both the proposed hub models have been done using Finite Element modelling tool HYPERMESH and NASTRAN solver.
