Long ago, in a distant corner of the universe, there were two planets spinning side by side, forever locked in silent orbit. One was called Virelia, the Planet of the Living. Long ago, in a distant corner of the universe, there were two planets spinning side by side, forever locked in silent orbit. One was called Virelia, the Planet of the Living. The other, cloaked in mist and silence, was Nerathos, the Planet of the Dead.
On Virelia, life thrived in radiant forests, soaring cities, and endless oceans. The air buzzed with laughter, music, and dreams. The people knew joy and sorrow, birth and death but when their time ended, their souls vanished from Virelia, never to return.
They didn't know where the dead went. Only that they went somewhere.
That somewhere was Nerathos.
Nerathos wasn't a place of torment. It was quiet. Peaceful. A world where memories drifted like leaves on the wind, and the souls of the dead lived without pain or fear. But it was also lonely. The souls remembered their lives, their loved ones, their homes on Virelia and longed for just one moment to say goodbye.
The planets had always been close, but never connected until a child named Kael was born on Virelia.
Kael was different. He could see the dead.
It started small shadows in mirrors, whispers in dreams. Then, on his twelfth birthday, he wandered into the forest and met a girl glowing like moonlight. Her name was Lira, and she had died long ago.
But she wasn't gone. Not really. She had crossed from Nerathos, drawn by Kael's gift.
As Kael grew, more souls came to him. He listened to their stories, their regrets, their forgotten names. He started building a place where the living could speak to the dead. A shrine at first, then a tower, then a great glowing Bridge of Light that shimmered between Virelia and Nerathos.
It was dangerous. The elders warned against disturbing the balance. But Kael believed the dead deserved to be remembered and the living deserved to heal.
At last, the Bridge was finished.
For one night every year, on the Eclipse of the Twins, the planets aligned perfectly, and the Bridge opened. Families met loved ones. Friends laughed again. The dead spoke, and the living listened. Not forever but just long enough.
Then, as the planets drifted apart again, the Bridge faded into the stars.
Kael passed away many years later, his soul gently crossing to Nerathos. But every year, on the Eclipse, the Bridge still returns. And across the void, the living and the dead walk toward each other hand in hand if only for a little while.
