A survival training trip turns into a real-life exercise in survival, an explosion at the site of an underground volcano has serious consequences, and an experiment in comet retrieval goes awry and causes massive power outages which threatens the lives of the family and many other colonists. When the family prepares to leave Mars for Europa, they face their biggest challenge of all when the Space Defense Force calls on them to help with a serious mission.
