The articles in this volume provide new research on social and political power as well as on the relationship between power and the theory of fairness. In recent years, publications on power measures have substantially increased. It is obvious that the application of power indices to political institutions, and to the analysis of the European Union in particular, is becoming more and more popular. However there are also new theoretical instruments and perspectives which support these applications, and they are also discussed in this volume.

Perlentaucher-Notiz zur F.A.Z.-Rezension
Der Band versammelt Vorträge, die auf der internationalen Tagung "Power and Fairness" im September 2000 in Bad Segeberg zum Thema "Power measures (Machtindikatoren) und "fairness conzepts" (Gerechtigkeitskonzepte) gehalten wurden. Dabei handelt es sich um "zwei voneinander isolierten Denktraditionen", die nur schwer miteinander vereinbar sind, wie Rezensent Norbert Tofall beklagt, da in den vergangenen Jahren politische Institutionen und Organisationen "zunehmend mit Hilfe von Machtindikatoren analysiert worden sind". Ein thematischer Schwerpunkt liege dabei auf der Analyse der Europäischen Institution mit diesem Instrument. Im Jahrbuch enthalten sind zur "Wirkung von Mehrheitsregeln in der EU", zur "Macht in politischen und wirtschaftlichen Strukturen" oder zur "Machtverteilung in osteuropäischen Parlamenten". Fraglich bleibt für Tofall, ob ein Titel wie "Macht und Machtmessungsindikatoren" nicht zutreffender für den Sammelband gewesen wäre, denn die voneinander isolierte Betrachtung von "Macht und Gerechtigkeit" konnte auch nicht von diesem Jahrbuch für Neue Politische Ökonomie überwunden werden.
