Between Sisters

sehr gut

This novel by the bestselling author Kristin Hannah is another story from her favourite Washington State area and between sisters who have gotten far from each other, but in the course of the story they are changing and are getting close again. When tragedy strikes, the sisters can count on each other.

Meg - a tough, single lawyer - and her sister running a campground in the beautiful Sound area, single and mother of a 5-year-old daughter Ali, finally meets her soulmate - a musician without money. She is over the moon when he proposes. Shortly after their wedding she does not feel well and finally the doctors state that the tumour in the brain is non-operable. As long as she wanders from hospital to hospital looking for help, her new husband is getting a contract in Nashville organized by their non-present mother, a former actress who left her small daughters in Bakersfield when Hollywood was calling.

But you may never give up hope which comes along with Joey...

When reading this novel you can forget time and it is very hard to stop reading and do something else. I loved it! Thank you Kristin Hannah!

The new bestseller from S.E. Philllips is written in her well-known manner: A twisted tale, a complicated relationship, a bit of resistance and finally a happy ending! I personally did not like it too much; the tale of the foreign disturber in a quiet Texas town is too imaginary! There are novels from the authors I liked a lot better! But nevertheless it is an amusing read, even knowing what will finally happen. In this plot a lot of caracters known from her former novels have a come back: f.ex. the main caracters of Glitter Baby; What I did for Love; Fancy Pants and Lady be Good... It is interesting to see where all these personalities went in the course of the years...

An excellent summer read on the beach and not too demanding!

Homecoming

ausgezeichnet

This new novel by romance author Cathy Kelly is based in Dublin and is about several strong women living in the neighbourhod and of different age.

A retired pysochanalyst from New York - emigrated from Ireland at the age of 11 with her mother and aunt - is coming back to Dublin, as she cannot get over the death of her husband. She always wanted to come back to the West with him, but never took the chance. In her luggage is her mother's old recipe book - not only about cooking but also about life! As she settles in Golden Square in Dublin she feels quite lonely at the beginning, but gets more and more involved in the life of the other apartment owners.

There are a lot of twists and turns, but it is always interesting to read and you suffer with every single caracter of the book!

To recommend warmly! Cathy Kelly at her best!

Gilbert, Elizabeth

Committed

gut

It is really an amazing book, and completely different in comparison to EAT, PRAY, LOVE; even when it is the sequel. E. Gilbert did a lot of research for COMMITTED.

First you may think, oh no, how long does it take to tie the knot, but after some chapters you can understand how the author is looking intensively at all the different aspects "pro-marriage" and "against-marriage". She also describes very moving how her lover and future husband being a foreigner has been arrested when returning to the US and how he was held in prison for several days. Finally there was no choice for both as to leave the country and stay very far away and just wait and be patient, till the US-authorities agreed to enable the legalization of this couple!

E. Gilbert describes very intensively her and his feelings. They love each other and want to stay together, but they are both divorced and do not see the necessity to marry a second time. But finally they agree to marry in order to facilitate their lives. After this agreement, there is the question how and where the wedding will take place?

A very good book (don't forget this is a "real" book and no fiction!") To recommend anytime! Not only for women (and wives)...

The Love Verb

This is a really heart-moving story about love etween spouses, family and friends. I enjoyed it very much and like to say Jane Green was writing never better.

It is the story about happy Callie, her busy husband and her two adorable children, her "wild" sister and her various boyfriends, her long divorced parents as well as Callie's best friend Lila and Ed. They are in good contact with each other and leading an independent life, until tragedy strikes. In the course of the story everyone of them learns about love and friendship and that these are the only important things in life.

A novel to recommend not only for the beach in summer, but also for the couch with a cup of tea or coffee in wintertime.

This s a truly shaking book about a complicated family history which Raheen and Karim share and like to disentangle. It is rather disturbing for them when they learn that their parents - now best friends - once have been engaged to each other. When Karim's family emigrates to England, the young friends lose each other, their meetings and their daily talks...

It is also a book about Pakistan and Karachi's upper class in the turbulent nineties. As a foreigner it is very interesting to get to know better the mentality of the main caracters as well as the political situation back then.

I liked this book very much and want ot recommend it with 5 stars, even if it is not a "light" book to read.

The Gatecrasher

gut
