This study deals with the brief interim period of East German state parliamentarianism between two dictatorships from November 1946 to July 1952. This development, which was characterized by initial openness to a democratic new beginning and its subsequent authoritarian closure, which was soon pushed forward by the SED with the support of the Soviet occupying power, is traced using the First and Second State Parliaments of Saxony-Anhalt.
