An alumnus of Eastern Michigan University and Bowling Green State University, Ohio, he was Chairman of the Division of Humanities at Edward Waters University, Jacksonville, Florida, participant in the international Writing Program of the University of Iowa, where he earned an Honorary Fellowship in Writing, Visiting Scholar at the University of Eswatini, Southern Africa, Visiting International Professor at Randolph College, Lynchburg, Virginia, and Founding Professor of Theater at the Academy for the Performing Arts of the University of Trinidad and Tobago.
