Of course, I didn't fully understand it then; and for a few years, I kept writing up worksheets and cutting down half of the rainforest for little educational value apart from my pupils learning all the secrets of aerodynamics - pity I was teaching English then! After a few years, and only when I rediscovered the great potential of Assessment for Learning, the penny, or rather paper plane, finally dropped: AfL turns education onto its head; the pupils become the (co)leaders in the classroom; paper can stay in the photocopier, and finally, we can have a balanced and responsible relationship between learners and teachers!
