Despite Crane's testimony, the evidence against Turner is overwhelming. The prosecution has an eye-witness, the murder weapon, and a confession. The defense is impeded by Turner's pugilistic dementia, which will make it difficult, if not impossible, for her to testify. The situation grows desperate when the prosecution threatens to charge Crane with perjury and a newly discovered witness-who can corroborate Crane's testimony-is murdered.
