For interest and diversion, and to show the parallels and differences between the stateside Army and the Army at war there are paragraphs inserted from his letters during his time in Basic Training, Advanced Infantry Training, and his short time at Officer's Candidate School within the Vietnam writings. Rod always tries to see both sides and reports what he sees with his heart and his mind-he is always thinking and figuring. Though he is only one soldier he gives readers a sense of what every soldier saw and endured daily. This book will give the reader a distinct picture of daily life in the field in Vietnam.
