And since it is being shipped solely to New York, it ingolges the U.S. But Chan suspecits it is capabe of becomng an pandemic. Jacob is assigned by Inspector Chan to go undercover with a gang known to be involved with the Cherry Berry Drug, posing as an American civilian drug purchaser interested in this drug that is suipposedly frighteningly addictive. He is able to become associated with the gang, The Chinese Blood, and during his dealing with them, in his efforts to discover what the drug, what it looks like and its purpose, Jacob Jennings becomes involved with and later in love with one of the gang's high ranking members, Ginger; and she is in love with him. But even she has not seen the actual drug, neither has her sister, Delilah with whom she is insperable and who also like Jacob but defers to her sistef in the matter of romance with Jacob. A male high ranking member of the gang, Chop-Cghop Chewy does not fully believe that Jacob is a legit drug buyer and even more disliikes his hooking up with Ginger. Things come to a head when Inspector Chan pulls a urprise raid on Dr Wo-Ling Cheung's huge estate in Hong Kong where Jacob, as underover agent, has been told what the Cherry Berry drug actually is and for whom it is being exported to in New York. However, while Chan's raid succeeds in rescuing Jacob whom Cheung is about to administer the dreaded drug, it fails to find the drug; and when Jacob tells Inspector Chan for whom the drug is being sold and what its purpose is--Chan explodes with anger. So does Chan's other ally who is a Chinese Army General who has given his full support, endangered his career, for hs friend Chanm, only to hear the most ridiculous thing either he or chan can imagine from Jacob as to an explanaition of the rug. When the smoke clears, Inspector Chan must leave office temporarily or be dismissed, Jacob's dour of duty is near at hand and he is reassisned to completethe remainder in Japan, due to the heat from Inspctor Chan's fiasco. But Chan and Jacob continue their partnership by beng together in Tokyo where Jacob has been reassigned to work as assistant to Usata Onanoka, in charge of "Unusual AFfairs Dept" for the Tokyo Police Department. Fortunately Onanoka is a former student of Insp. Chan when Chan taught at the Tokyo Police Academy years ago. Also, before being asigned to Taiwan, Jacob Jennngs was assist. to Onanoka working on community gangs with a female detective Nikki; and therin lies another harrowing tale. They convince Chang of the legitimacy of Chan's suspicions and the three of them. Onanoka finds it easy to believe Chan's suspicions since a large number of gangs hasve recently assembled in Tokyo for unknown reasons. And so, Onanoka forms a teamconsisting of Inspetor Chan, Jacob, Detective Nikki and Jacob to pursue Chan's suspicions about Dr.Cheung by way of deterninng the reson for the gangs in assemblage and the very unusual matter of each of the gangs having one thing in common: they all practice black magic and sorcery.
