From the trials and tribulations of my childhood to who I am now as a God-fearing, unapologetic Black woman, these poems uncover all that makes me... well, me! From the trials and tribulations of my childhood to who I am now as a God-fearing, unapologetic Black woman, these poems uncover all that makes me... well, me! Whether I am discussing the difficulties of my innocence being taken from a plethora of childhood traumas or how I reclaimed that power and, in turn, eventually built myself back together, each poem has its own unique theme and message. Yet collectively, they all scream one thing: never be ashamed to be YOU. No matter what anyone says about you or does to you, at the end of the day, no matter how hard it hurts, always figure out how to get back up and live to fight another day. Much like a mother giving birth, I have had many labor pains in producing these marvelous works, nurturing them when they needed it most, but now it is time to let go, to give them to the world so their existence can be greeted with love and acknowledgement. I pray that these poems bless the lives of all who come in contact with them, now and generations to come. And always remember, sometimes life isn't all ugly; it's just the situation as it is.
