Stefan Stürmer, Ph.D., is Junior Professor of Applied Social Psychology and one of the Directors of the Institute of Psychology at the Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel (Germany). He received is Diploma in Psychology from Universität Leipzig in 1997, and his Ph.D. from Universität Kiel in 2000. He was a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis (USA). In his research, he investigates inter- and intragroup processes, with a particular emphasis on the role of group processes in social movement participation, cooperation, helping and altruism. He is author/co-author of a number of research articles in international journals and book chapters. Stefan Stürmer is a steering committee member of the European Research Network on 'Identity and Socio-Political Participation' sponsored by the European Science Foundation. He serves as a consultant for various local community agencies.

Mark Snyder, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Minnesota, where he holds the McKnight Presidential Chair in Psychology and is the founding Director of the Center for the Study of the Individual and Society. He received his B.A. from McGill University in 1968 and his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1972. His research interests include theoretical and empirical issues associated with the motivational foundations of individual and collective behavior, and the applications of basic theory and research in personality and social psychology to addressing practical problems confronting society. He has served as President of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, on the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Society, and the Council of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. He is a recipient of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology's Donald T. Campbell Award for Distinguished Contributions in Social Psychology. He is also the author of the book, Public Appearances/Private Realities: The Psychology of Self-Monitoring and co-editor of the volumes Cooperation in Modern Society: Promoting the Welfare of Communities, States, and Organizations and Cooperation in Society: Fostering Community Action and Civic Participation.
