'Chinook' was bred with Belgian Shepherd dogs, Canadian Eskimo dogs and German Shepherds to create the Chinook breed. The breeding pool for Chinooks dwindled during the second World War and was as small as 11 by the mid-1980s but due to groups of enthusiasts the breed managed to survive. The breed was traditionally used as a working sled dog but is now more commonly found as a house hold family pet.
