The second volume of Shafarevich's introductory book on algebraic varieties and complex manifolds. As with Volume 1, the author has revised the text and added new material, e.g. as a section on real algebraic curves. Although the material is more advanced than in Volume 1 the algebraic apparatus is kept to a minimum, making the book accessible to non-specialists. It can be read independently of Volume 1 and is suitable for beginning graduate students in mathematics as well as those in theoretical physics.
Der zweite Band von Shafarevichs einführendem Buch zur algebraischen Geometrie behandelt Schemata, komplexe algebraische Varietäten und komplexe Mannigfaltigkeiten. Wie bei Band 1 hat der Autor den Text überarbeitet und neuen Stoff ergänzt, z.B. einen Abschnitt über reelle algebraische Kurven. Obwohl das Niveau hier höher als bei Band 1 ist, werden die algebraischen Hilfsmittel auf ein Minimum beschränkt, so daß das Buch für Nichtspezialisten zugänglich ist. Es kann unabhängig von Band 1 gelesen werden und ist für Mathematikstudenten zu Beginn des Hauptstudiums und für Studenten der theoretischen Physik geeignet.
