Rezension

"House of Blight is romantic fantasy at its finest. Martineau has created a world so vivid that the only thing that surpasses it is the cast of characters you can't help but fall in love with. The perfect mixture of magic, romance, and darkness, this is the romantasy every reader needs on their shelves." - Alexa Martin, author of Better Than Fiction
"House of Blight is a gorgeous fae gothic, a portal to an enchanting and treacherous world filled with beautiful beings and twisted magic, where nobody can be trusted and nothing is what it seems. Maxym M. Martineau is a captivating storyteller and I'm excited to see what she will do next." - Ilona Andrews, #1 New York Times bestselling author
"The first in Martineau's gothic fantasy duology is filled with unique magic, romance, and intrigue. Strong characters, rich worldbuilding, and mounting tension make this a delightful read." - Library Journal
"Martineau weaves together a beautiful, lyrically written tale of romance mixed with dark stakes that bite. House of Blight has all the ingredients to captivate romantasy readers from the very first page and keep them under her spell til the very last!" - Lyssa Mia Smith, author of Revelle
"Martineau weaves a tale so rich in detail, you can feel cool soil between your fingertips and smell the fresh scent of moss as you live Edira's story with her. A sumptuous blend of fantasy and intrigue, grim realities and glowing magic. " - Piper J. Drake, author of Wings Once Cursed and Bound
"Reading-nay, devouring- House of Blight was a feast for the senses. Martineau uses stunning imagery and vivid details to paint an alluring, Gothic-tinged portrait of beauty, intrigue, passion, and dangerous magic. Addictively enchanting."
- Claire Legrand, New York Times bestselling author of Furyborn
"Wrenching, thrilling, and wildly imaginative, House of Blight will surely hit the spot for all lovers of dark fantasy and sensual, complicated romance. Maxym M. Martineau's elegant prose leaves the reader breathless at the same time that it fuels strikingly nuanced characters as they move through a richly crafted world with a unique magic system and a hauntingly pervasive sense of danger and mystery. This is the kind of story that you just can't put down." - Thea Guanzon, New York Times and international bestselling author of The Hurricane Wars
"[An] enthralling gothic fantasy... With court intrigue, a dash of romance, and betrayal galore, this promises good things to come." - Publishers Weekly
"House of Blight is one of those books I had trouble putting down. I loved the totally unique magic system and the eerie but cozy setting. Martineau's vivid descriptions drew me right into this world, and the twists and turns had me wondering who to trust until the last page. A must-read for any romantasy lover!" - Nisha J. Tuli, international bestselling author of Trial of the Sun Queen

What Lies Beneath the Glamour...

Bewertung am 17.05.2025

Bewertungsnummer: 2492337

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

Edira is a threadmender, a magical healer that can see the Lifethreads of other people and - you guessed it - mend them. However, everytime she mends someone's threads she looses part of her own lifespan, which is why she rarely uses her power and keeps it hidden, especially nowadays when a blight is ravaging through the people. when Edira's brothers contract the blight, she is discovered by Orin, the Ever (Fae) Patriach of the powerful Fernglove family. They strike a deal - her power for the lifes of her brothers - but Edira could have never known what this deal really entails. I liked the gothic atmosphere, Matineau's descriptions are very vivid and poetic. Personally, I thought there was no chemistry whatsoever between Edira and the two love interests, except Edira's ridiculous ability to detect even the slightest emotional shift in the faces of others. I thought the Romance part was, therefore, flat and I was unable to really sympathize with the male love interests.

House of Blight - Maxym M. Martineau

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

"House of Blight" is the first in the "Treadmender Chronicles" by Maxym M. Martineau. After loving "The Beast Charmer" so much, I knew I definitely wanted to read the new series from the author! Edira Brillwyn has a rare gift that allows her to stitch life's threads back together - but she always has to give up a small part of her own life to do so. When her brothers fall ill with the insidious blight, she has no choice but to make a pact with the powerful Fernglove family. In order to save her brothers, she becomes increasingly entangled in a maelstrom of secrets and intrigue. The magic system is innovative and has been described by the author in a very tangible way. Once again, I can praise the vivid and fluid writing style, which made reading easy for me. The story mostly takes place on the Fernglove family estate. Even though the plot has some quieter scenes that create authenticity and shed more light on the characters, it never gets boring. On the contrary - the search for a cure for the blight turns out to be a race against time and uncovers more and more secrets. In the last 100 pages, events come thick and fast - if you thought you finally knew the truth, you now have to realize that this assumption is simply wrong. Edira is a strong female protagonist who, despite foul play, pulls the right strings to save the ones she loves. "House of Blight" is a successful start to the series that I can only recommend.
