Betty Parker Blackmon JD, MSW is a retired associate professor at the UMKC, Kansas City for fourteen years and spent another seven years as an adjunct professor at the University of Kansas. She has fifteen years of experience developing and teaching online courses. Combining advocacy for persons challenged and concerned about the efficacy of online education and support resulted in this work. She has advocated for the provision of additional services to students that will keep them in higher education, especially first generation student struggles. She created supportive services for graduate students enrolled in the UMKC graduate school of social work. Prior to the pandemic she published several articles merging social justice and student activities. Articles such as Social Work and Online Education: with all deliberate speed, and Social Work Students using technology to pursued social justice. Additionally, she explored the integration of technology in social justice. She published an article describing her work with students, social justice and technology entitled Social work Students using Technology to promote social justice: From Student to Advocate was published in the American International Journal of Social Science, and another article Implementing Social Justice into Social Work Learning Contracts is published in the Journal of Sociology and Social Work. Betty Parker's teaching experience is extensive and her love for online teaching is leading to the creation of tips and strategies for students to engage in online student success. The focus on online education should extend to evaluating crisis remote learning that is occurring during this horrific pandemic. Student need help in achieving their goals of obtain a college degree and if the help does not come from their higher education institutions who will need to close the gap between online courses and the newer crisis remote training currently offered. Guide to Effective Online Student Success: Tips and Strategies for the Concerned, Worried, and Challenged is offered to assist student in addressing the challenges of online education. of experience
