This book discusses the ICU environment from a patient perspective. It elucidates the need for phenomenological inquiry in investigating the critical illness experience in ICU and beyond. It includes narratives of people from a phenomenological study that examined the experience of critical illness in ICU and after discharge in the context of Daily Sedation Interruption. The narratives are discussed with a conclusion that critical illness is a biographical disruption. Additionally, implications for practice, education and research are made.

Le Dr Tembo s'intéresse aux recherches relatives aux pratiques de soins intensifs et à la gestion des patients gravement malades, ainsi qu'à l'impact des maladies graves sur les survivants et leurs familles. Ses recherches visent à améliorer les résultats à court et à long terme des survivants de maladies graves. Elle est la fondatrice du groupe de soutien de l'unité de soins intensifs Hunter pour les survivants des soins intensifs.
