Paul Hoffman hat nach seinem Anglistik-Studium in über zwanzig verschiedenen Berufen gearbeitet, unter anderem als Buchmacher, Kurierfahrer, Lehrer und als Gutachter für den Britisch Board of Film. Teile seines ersten Romans wurden mit verfilmt. Als Drehbuchautor hat er neben vielen anderen mit Francis Ford Coppola gearbeitet.
