Doerrs gorgeous combination of soaring imagination with observation is electric. Deftly interweaving the lives of MarieLaure, a blind girl who flees Paris during the Nazi occupation, and Werner, a German orphan boy who becomes a highly specialised tracker of the Resistance, Doerr illuminates the ways, against all odds, that people try to be good to one another.
