Stephen Booth wurde in Burnley, im englischen Lancashire geboren, eine Gegend, in der er auch heute noch tief verwurzelt ist. Er arbeitet seit fünfundzwanzig Jahren als Journalist für Zeitungen und beim Rundfunk und hatte bereits einige Kurzgeschichten veröffentlicht, bevor er mit "Kühler Grund" sein sogleich international gefeiertes und für den "Anthony Award" nominiertes Romandebüt verfasste. Mittlerweile liegt bereits der zweite Roman mit dem Ermittlerpaar Ben Cooper und Diane Fry vor, "Dancing with the Virgins", der ebenfalls bei Manhattan erscheinen wird und für den "Gold Dagger Award" nominiert wurde.
