Angus Donald wurde 1965 als Sohn eines britischen Diplomaten in China geboren. Er war als Kriegsberichterstatter in Afghanistan, geriet mehr als einmal in Lebensgefahr und zog sich schließlich auf ein kleines Cottage in seiner britischen Heimat zurück, um Romanautor zu werden. Angus Donald stammt vom ritterlichen Hochadel ab, was sein Faible für den von ihm gewählten Stoff erklären könnte.
