Samuelson's text was first published in 1948, and it immediately became the authority for the principles of economics courses. The book continues to be the standard-bearer for principles courses, and this revision continues to be a clear, accurate, and interesting introduction to modern economics principles. Bill Nordhaus is now the primary author of this text, and he has revised the book to be as current and relevant as ever.

Paul Samuelson, Jg. 1915 ist Neokeynesianer und Schüler von Joseph Schumpeter, Nobelpreisträger, Volkswirtschaftsexperte und Studentenfreund. Er wirkte seit den vierziger Jahren als Gutachter und Experte zahlreicher Institutionen und Organisationen. Er war Wirtschaftsberater der US Präsidenten D. Eisenhower und J.F. Kennedy. Samuelson war Mitbegründer und Lehrer am MIT in Cambridge. 1948 veröffentlichte er erstmalig sein mittlerweile weltweit bekanntes Lehrbuch der Volkswirtschaftslehre 'Economics'. Samuelson verfasste Beiträge zu beinahe allen Gebieten der Ökonomie. 1970 erhielt er für die Weiterentwicklung der statischen und dynamischen Theorie den Nobelpreis. Er steht bis heute dem US-Finanzministerium und der amerikanischen Zentralbank als Berater zur Seite, ist sechsfacher Vater und begeisterter Tennisspieler.
