Neil MacGregor ist seit 2002 Direktor des Britischen Museums. Zuvor war er von 1987 bis 2002 Direktor der National Gallery in London. 2008 wurde er zum "Briten des Jahres" gewählt, 2010 erhielt er den erstmals verliehenen Internationalen "Folkwang-Preis".
