This paper presents the impact of the new BASEL III liquidity ratios LCR and NSFR on business of banks. At the beginning is explained the theoretical background on banking regulation, the development of Basel I, BASEL II and the latest requirements introduced by Basel III. At last, are describes the consequences and the impact of the new liquidity ratios on business of banks at simplified examples of retail, investment and wholesale banks. The implementation of these rules will impose large costs and will enforced banks to balance the interest of the business against the needs of the regulator. The new Basel package is not business model neutral, they have to reconsider their portfolio of business and the business model of each.
