Autorenporträt
Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904), geb. in Griechenland, wo sein irischer Vater als Chirurg eines britischen Regiments stationiert war. Er wuchs in Frankreich und England auf, wanderte in die USA aus und arbeitete zunächst als Journalist. 1890 wurde er als Korrespondent nach Japan entsandt. Er heiratete eine Japanerin, nahm die japanische Staatsbürgerschaft an und arbeitete zunächst als Lehrer, später als Professor für englische Literatur in Tokio, wo er auch starb.
