Inspiration

The women profiled in Inspiration are contemporary, timeless, bold, courageous, trailblazers and history makers. Their unique voices, images and stories have shaped the psyche of a whole generation and ushered in a new era of sophisticated, successful black women. From the White House to the courts of Wimbledon and from Hollywood to the stages of the Metropolitan Opera House, each of these women has influenced the social, cultural and political landscape across the world. Inspiration features intimate, honest portraits of 30 extraordinary black women taken by acclaimed photographer Lauri Lyons. Powerful images paired with insightful essays taken from first-person interviews reveal the challenges these celebrated women have faced in their lives and the successes they have achieved. Featuring: Whoopi Goldberg, Venus Williams, Mary J. Bilge and Michelle Obama, amongst others.

Crystal McCrary, Esq., has written for several magazines, published two novels and produced for TV & Film. She has appeared as a pop culture critic and commentator on women's issues, children's rights, race and literacy on various popular and well known broadcasts; such as Good Morning America, The Today Show and CNN. Lauri Lyons has had photographs featured in a variety of publications, including The London Observer. In 2003 she became the first women to shoot the cover of Fortune Magazine.
