Simon Armitage gehört zu den wichtigsten britischen Lyrikern der Gegenwart. Vielfach ausgezeichnet für seine Gedichte, ist er aber auch als Dramatiker, Romancier, Songtexter und Drehbuchautor hervorgetreten. Er hat mehrere Anthologien zur zeitgenössischen englischen Lyrik herausgegeben und als Librettist mit dem schottischen Opernkomponist Stuart MacRae zusammengearbeitet. Der zeit lehrt er Creative Writing an der Universität Manchester. Armitage lebt in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
